Neil Ackerman, born in Brooklyn, New York, December 8, 1955, admitted to New York Bar 1982, and U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Education: SUNY at Binghamton (B.A, Outstanding Academic Achievement Award, 1977); American University Law School (J.D., 1981). Law Clerk to the Honorable Cecelia H. Goetz, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, Eastern District of New York, 1981-1982. A bankruptcy Trustee since 1986, Mr. Ackerman was a member of the Panel of Trustees of the Eastern District of New York between 1991-2012. Mr. Ackerman focuses on Commercial & Consumer bankruptcy Law, and Debt Restructuring & Workouts, and has successfully represented numerous businesses, including public corporations, & individuals, as well as Creditors’ Committees, Investors’ Committees, & Bondholders’ Committees in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases; & bankruptcy Trustees in numerous Chapter. 7 & 11 cases. He has also represented thousands of individuals & married couples as debtors in Chapters 7, 11 & 13 bankruptcy cases; numerous defendants in preference & fraudulent conveyance actions, & other bankruptcy adversary proceedings; and banks, insurance premium finance companies, and other secured and unsecured creditors and landlords in Chapters 7, 11, & 13 bankruptcy cases as well as in pre-bankruptcy and outside-of bankruptcy debt workouts. Mr. Ackerman is currently the Chairperson of the Bankruptcy Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association; and was the editor of “Bankruptcy for Bankers” of the Banking Law Journal between 1999-2000; authored 14 articles that were published in the NY Law Journal, the Banking Law Journal, the American University Law Review & the Long Island Business News; and frequently lectures at legal seminars on Bankruptcy issues to Attorneys.
